Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup canned milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 cup of sugar in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Stir as needed to prevent sticking.
  3. In a separate saucepan, combine the remaining sugar and canned milk.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium.
  5. When the first sugar has melted, pour it slowly into the milk mixture and cook until the soft ball stage is reached.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat.
  7. Stir in the vanilla.
  8. Let the mixture cool for ten minutes, stirring until it loses its gloss and begins to firm.
  9. Pour onto a buttered cookie sheet or into a rectangular casserole dish.
  10. Allow the candy to harden, then cut into small squares.
