Instructions
- Soak whole cucumbers in salt water for 1 week.
- Wash cucumbers and slice thin.
- Soak sliced cucumbers in alum solution for 24 hours.
- Rinse cucumbers well.
- Cover cucumbers with vinegar and let stand for 24 hours.
- Pour off the vinegar.
- Layer cucumbers with sugar and pickling spices (including cloves). More than 5 pounds of sugar may be used.
- These pickles do not have to be sealed.
