- Cut okra into rings and steam in very little water until tender.
- Add the steamed okra to bacon drippings and cook until light brown.
- Cut onion and green bell pepper into medium-fine pieces.
- Add the chopped onion and pepper to the okra along with the crumbled bacon.
- Add rice and 2 cups of water to the mixture, season with salt and pepper.
- Cook over medium heat for about 45 minutes or until the rice is done.
