Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups sifted plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/3 cups melted lard or Crisco, cooled
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 package yeast

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast into lukewarm water.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until just mixed.
  3. Be careful not to overmix the dough.
  4. Cover and let rise until it doubles in size.
  5. Stir down the dough, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Two hours before baking, grease the baking pan.
  7. Dust the dough with flour until it can be rolled out onto a board.
  8. Roll out the dough, cut into pieces, and place on the prepared pan.
  9. Greasethe tops of the rolls with melted butter.
  10. Let the rolls rise for 2 hours.
  11. Bake in a 425°F (220°C) oven until golden brown.
