Ingredients

  • 2 c. cornmeal (white)
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 c. cold water
  • 4 c. boiling water

Instructions

  1. Mix cornmeal, salt, and cold water together and stir into boiling water very slowly.
  2. Turn down the heat and cook slowly, stirring, for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Eat warm with milk and sugar or a lump of butter.
  4. If desired, pour into an oiled loaf pan and store overnight to set.
  5. The next day, slice and fry until crisp in hot fat over hot fire.
  6. Serve immediately with butter and syrup.
