Old-Fashioned Thick Eggnog

A rich, creamy eggnog with bourbon and cognac, infused with nutmeg, perfect for holiday celebrations or cozy gatherings with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 12 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup bourbon
  • 3/4 cup cognac
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 pints heavy cream
  • grated nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In an electric mixer, beat egg yolks with sugar until thick.
  2. Slowly add bourbon and cognac to the yolk mixture.
  3. Chill the mixture for 2 hours.
  4. Meanwhile, add salt to egg whites and beat until almost stiff.
  5. Whip the heavy cream until stiff.
  6. Fold the whipped cream into the chilled yolk mixture.
  7. Gently fold in the beaten egg whites.
  8. Chill the mixture for another 2 hours.
  9. When ready to serve, sprinkle with grated nutmeg.
  10. Serve in cups with a spoon. Optionally, add 1 or 2 cups of milk for a thinner eggnog.
