Ingredients

  • 1 c. light molasses
  • 4 1/3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 3/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3/4 c. lard
  • 3/4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix all together; chill.
  2. Roll 1/4-inch thick.
  3. Use a 4-inch cookie cutter or make balls and flatten with fork.
  4. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375° for 9 minutes.
  5. Yields 2 dozen large cookies.
