Sweet and tangy onion sandwiches feature thinly sliced onions soaked in vinegar, layered with mayonnaise and powdered sugar on white bread for a unique snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Chop the large sweet onion finely.
  2. Combine the chopped onions with water, vinegar, and sugar; bring to a boil.
  3. Let the mixture cool overnight.
  4. Drain the onions the next day.
  5. Use white bread, trimming off brown edges.
  6. Spread mayonnaise and powdered sugar on the bread slices.
  7. Add about 1 teaspoon of the drained onions onto each slice.
  8. Put the slices together to form finger sandwiches.
  9. Cut the sandwiches into finger-sized pieces.
  10. They can be frozen and thawed to use later.
