Orange Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 8 lemons
  • lemon slices (optional)
  • 1 sprig fresh mint (optional)
  • 4 to 5 oranges

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water.
  2. Cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly.
  3. Allow the syrup to cool.
  4. Finely shred enough orange and lemon peel to make 2 tablespoons.
  5. Set aside the shredded peel.
  6. Squeeze juice from the lemons and orange to make 1 1/2 cups of orange juice, then add the juices and peel to the cooled syrup.
  7. Pour the mixture over mint sprig, cover, and let stand for 1 hour if desired.
  8. Strain the mixture and pour into jars, then cover and refrigerate.
  9. To serve, fill glasses or a pitcher with ice cubes.
  10. Pour equal amounts of fruit syrup and water over the ice.
  11. Stir well to combine.
  12. Garnish with lemon slices if desired.
