Ingredients

  • 2 qt. water
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 1/2 c. salt (pickling)
  • 1/2 tsp. alum

Instructions

  1. Pack pickles in jars.
  2. Boil water, vinegar, salt, and alum.
  3. Pour the hot mixture over the pickles in the jars, adding 1 clove garlic and 2 dill sprigs to each.
  4. Tighten the lids on the jars.
  5. Bake the jars at 225°F (107°C) for 1 hour.
  6. Set the jars on a jelly roll pan in the oven in case of breakage.
