Ingredients

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Milnot
  • 1 stick margarine

Instructions

  1. Grease the inside of a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  2. Cook the mixture to soft ball stage.
  3. Remove from heat and add 7 ounces of marshmallow cream and 1 cup chopped nuts.
  4. Pour the mixture into the greased pan and let it set.

Tips & Substitutions

To achieve the perfect soft ball stage for your fudge, use a candy thermometer or drop a small amount of the mixture into cold water; it should form a soft ball. If you don't have Milnot, you can substitute with evaporated milk or any non-dairy milk for a vegan version. For added flavor, consider mixing in a teaspoon of vanilla extract after removing from heat.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this persimmon fudge cut into squares, and it pairs beautifully with a warm cup of coffee or tea. For a festive touch, consider serving alongside Spiced Cranberry Sauce during the holidays. It also makes a delightful gift when packaged in decorative boxes.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you prefer a firmer texture, refrigerate the fudge, but allow it to come to room temperature before serving to enhance its creamy consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh persimmons in this recipe?

This recipe does not include fresh persimmons, but you could experiment by incorporating pureed ripe persimmons for added flavor. Just be cautious about the moisture content, as it may affect the fudge's consistency.

What type of nuts work best in persimmon fudge?

Chopped walnuts or pecans are excellent choices for this fudge as they complement the sweetness of the fudge nicely. You can also try using macadamia nuts for a richer flavor.

Is there a way to make this recipe vegan?

Yes! Substitute the stick of margarine with a vegan butter alternative and replace Milnot with a non-dairy milk like almond or coconut milk. Additionally, ensure that the marshmallow cream is vegan or use a plant-based alternative.
