Ingredients

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 slices buttered bread, cubed
  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • dash of salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put brown sugar in the top of a double boiler.
  2. Add cubed bread to the double boiler.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine beaten eggs, vanilla, salt, milk, and raisins if desired.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the double boiler.
  5. Do not stir the mixture.
  6. Cook undisturbed for 1 hour in the double boiler.
  7. When done, turn the double boiler upside down onto a serving dish to serve.
