Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • vegetable oil
  • 1 c. honey
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. grated orange rind (optional)
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl or on a pastry board.
  2. Add the eggs, one by one, mixing well and kneading until the dough has a uniform consistency.
  3. Let the dough stand for 30 minutes.
  4. Take the dough, one small piece at a time, and roll it between the palms of your hands into thin pencil-like strips.
  5. Cut the strips into 1/4-inch pieces with a sharp knife, each about the size of a pea.
  6. Heat vegetable oil for frying.
  7. Fry the dough pieces until golden and crisp.
  8. In a saucepan, combine honey, sugar, orange rind (if using), and cinnamon, heating until blended.
  9. Toss the fried dough pieces in the honey mixture until well coated.
  10. Serve immediately or cool and store for later enjoyment.
