Pita Bread(Khubaz)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 3-3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 env. dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water. Let stand for 5 mins.
  2. Stir in salt and mix in 3 c. flour to form a rough sticky dough.
  3. Turn dough onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, adding flour if necessary.
  4. Divide dough into 8 equal parts and shape each into smooth ball.
  5. Flatten each slightly and roll into 5 inch circle.
  6. Put rounds on baking sheets, cover with cloth and let rise 45-60 mins. or until lightly puffed.
  7. Preheat oven to 450° and bake rounds 8-10 mins. or until lightly browned.
  8. They will puff up while baking.
  9. While still warm, put in plastic bag, leaving one end open.
  10. Keeps bread moist and pliable.
  11. Makes 8 loaves.
