Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour and salt together.
  2. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Sprinkle cold water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix with a fork until the dough begins to hold together.
  4. Form the dough into a ball, place on a lightly floured board, and roll very thin.
  5. Roll the dough onto a rolling pin and unroll it over the pie pan.
  6. Trim the edges and flute as desired. Save some dough for lattice if making fruit pies.
