Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/2 cups plain all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons shortening slightly melted
  • Melted butter or oleo margarine

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and 1 1/4 cups of flour; beat well.
  3. Add egg, shortening, and remaining flour; knead until dough is workable.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  5. Roll dough to 3/8-inch thickness and cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
  6. Fold each cut piece in half and place close together in a lightly greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Brush the rolls with melted butter or oleo margarine.
  8. Let rise until doubled in size.
  9. Bake at 400°F for about 18 minutes until golden brown.
