- Wash potatoes and cut lengthwise into eighths.
- Preheat broiler to 550°F.
- Place potatoes, cut sides down, in an ungreased jelly roll pan and brush with vegetable oil.
- Mix salt, sugar, paprika, dry mustard, and garlic powder; sprinkle half of the mixture over the potatoes.
- Broil with tops about 3 inches from the heat until potatoes begin to bubble, about 10 minutes.
- Turn potatoes, brush with more oil, and sprinkle with remaining seasoning mixture.
- Broil until golden brown and tender, about 5 minutes longer.
- Serve with sour cream if desired.
