Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 28 oz. can tomatoes
  • 16 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Brown ground chuck in a large skillet over moderate heat until it loses its pink color, breaking it up with a large spoon as it cooks.
  2. Stir in salt, sugar, oregano, basil, garlic powder, black pepper, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water.
  3. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
