Roasted Garlic Turnips

Roasted garlic turnips combine creamy roasted garlic with sweet pears, offering a comforting yet sophisticated side dish suitable for autumn dinners or special gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs turnips
  • 1 ripe pear
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • pepper
  • 1 T margarine

Instructions

  1. Cut the bottom off a medium head of garlic, place it on a square of aluminum foil, drizzle 1/2 teaspoon olive oil over it, seal the foil.
  2. Bake at 375°F for approximately 30 minutes until the garlic is very soft.
  3. Peel and quarter 1 1/2 pounds of turnips.
  4. Peel, core, and chop 1 ripe pear.
  5. Roast garlic cloves until very soft and mash or chop as desired.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine turnips, chopped pear, roasted garlic, pepper to taste, and 1 tablespoon margarine.
  7. Cook or bake the mixture as desired, or serve as a warm side dish.
