Ingredients

  • 6 oz. chocolate bits
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 slices dry bread
  • 1/2 cup walnuts

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate bits in 1 cup of milk.
  2. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of milk and set aside.
  3. Decrust the bread if desired, cube it, and place in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  4. Combine the salt, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  5. Mix the milk and egg mixture together and pour over the bread cubes.
  6. Break or leave whole the walnuts and sprinkle on top of the casserole.
  7. Set the casserole in a pan of hot water and bake at 350°F for approximately 1 hour.
  8. Check to ensure the walnuts don't darken too much during baking.
