Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 tablespoon oleo
  • 1 cake or package yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 5 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil; add salt, quick oats, oleo, and molasses, then cool.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and add to the cooled mixture.
  3. Add flour and beat well.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured board.
  5. Put in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled in bulk.
  6. Make into 2 loaves and place in loaf pans.
  7. Let the dough rise until doubled in bulk again.
  8. Bake in a 350°F oven for 40 minutes.
  9. Let the bread set for at least one hour before slicing.
