Rolled stuffed cabbage leaves are a hearty, flavorful dish featuring tender cabbage wrapped around a savory lamb and rice filling. Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cabbage
  • 1 lb. ground lamb
  • 1 medium can minced tomatoes
  • 4 or 5 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon or allspice
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Separate the cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 5 minutes to make the leaves pliable for rolling.
  2. Cut each leaf into 2 or 3 sections, removing the tough stem section.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ground lamb, rice, minced tomatoes, garlic, cinnamon or allspice, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place a spoonful of the filling on each cabbage leaf section and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides.
  5. Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls in a pot and cover with additional minced tomatoes or tomato sauce if desired.
  6. Simmer the rolls for about 30 minutes until the meat is cooked and the rice is tender.
