- Heat butter and brown sugar to 308°F on a candy thermometer (hard crack stage) over medium heat.
- Pour the caramel layer over pecans that are placed in a single layer in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top; spread as they melt to cover the caramel layer.
- Allow to cool for 3 to 4 hours.
- Flip out of the pan and break into pieces.
