Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
  • 16 oz. ready-to-spread chocolate frosting
  • black paste food coloring
  • red ready-to-pipe gel

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and bake in a 9-inch round or square pan. Allow to cool completely.
  2. Spread the ready-to-spread chocolate frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
  3. Use black paste food coloring to tint some of the frosting for decorating, if desired.
  4. Create spider legs by cutting 8 black chenille pipe cleaners into 12-inch lengths.
  5. Arrange the pipe cleaners on top of the cake to resemble spider legs, attaching them with frosting if needed.
  6. Place the plastic cat eyes on the top of the cake for the spider's eyes.
  7. Use red ready-to-pipe gel to create a mouth or other spooky details on the cake.
  8. Insert half a pair of vampire teeth into the frosting for a creepy effect, if desired.
