Sugared Date Squares

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. margarine or butter
  • 8 oz. chopped dates
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 c. Rice Krispies
  • 1 c. chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8 or 9-inch square pan.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, margarine and dates.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until mixture is smooth, about 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla, cereal and nuts.
  4. Spread in prepared pan.
  5. Cool completely.
  6. Cut cooled bars into 1-inch squares.
  7. Coat all sides with powdered sugar.
  8. Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
