Ingredients

  • 5 oranges
  • 5 lemons
  • 1 1/2 oz citric acid
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple
  • 3 lb sugar

Instructions

  1. Slice oranges and lemons thinly.
  2. Barely cover the citrus slices with water and let stand for an hour.
  3. Remove the pulp and discard the rinds.
  4. Dissolve citric acid in 1 cup of warm water and add to the mixture along with the crushed pineapple.
  5. Dissolve sugar in enough water to make 3 gallons and add to the fruit mixture.

Tips & Substitutions

For a refreshing twist, consider adding a splash of ginger or mint to the lemonade. You can also substitute a portion of the sugar with honey or agave syrup for a healthier alternative. If the citrus slices are too tart, balance the sweetness by adjusting the sugar in the recipe. This lemonade pairs beautifully with Jazzed Up Ice Cream on a hot day.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Super Lemonade chilled in tall glasses, garnished with fresh mint leaves or additional citrus slices for a vibrant presentation. This drink pairs wonderfully with light appetizers like Cold Carrots or even as a refreshing complement to a summer BBQ. For a fun twist, consider turning it into a cocktail with a splash of vodka or rum.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover Super Lemonade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. To maintain freshness, avoid adding ice directly to the lemonade, as it will dilute the flavor. Instead, serve over ice when ready to enjoy. Stir well before serving to ensure the flavors are well combined.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this lemonade in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the Super Lemonade a day ahead. Just keep it refrigerated and give it a good stir before serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully. However, it's best to add ice just before serving to prevent dilution.

Is there a way to reduce the sugar content?

Absolutely! You can cut the sugar by half and replace it with a natural sweetener like stevia or agave syrup. Alternatively, you can use less sugar and increase the amount of crushed pineapple for added sweetness and flavor.

Can I use bottled lemon and orange juice instead of fresh?

While fresh juice yields the best flavor, you can use bottled juice in a pinch. Just ensure it's 100% juice with no added sugars. Note that the taste may differ slightly, so adjust the sweetness accordingly.
