Ingredients

  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 Tbsp. dairy sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vodka, whiskey or vinegar
  • pinch of salt
  • vegetable shortening or oil
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Place flour in a medium bowl; make a well in center.
  2. Add egg yolks; work with your fingertips until blended.
  3. Add sour cream, vanilla, liquor or vinegar and salt.
  4. Blend well.
  5. On a lightly floured board, work mixture into a smooth dough.
  6. Dough should have tiny air bubbles throughout.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for later use.
  8. For immediate use, on a lightly floured board, roll out dough to about 1/16-inch thick.
  9. Slice into 1 1/2-inch wide strips.
  10. Cut strips diagonally into 5-inch wide.
  11. Cut 1-inch slits lengthwise in center of each strip.
  12. Pull 1 end of strip back through slit so strip resembles a bow tie.
  13. Repeat.
  14. In large skillet, heat 1-inch vegetable shortening.
  15. Fry to golden brown in less than one minute.
  16. Drain on towels.
  17. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar.
  18. Serve at room temperature.
  19. Makes 12 to 14 servings.
