Tomato Basil Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. dry yeast
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 3/4 c. tomato puree or spaghetti sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. basil, crushed (dried)
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 c. white flour

Instructions

  1. Proof yeast in 1/2 cup warm water along with the sugar (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add proofed yeast to the rest of the ingredients and mix until dough sticks together enough to clean sides of the bowl. Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
  3. Let rise in greased bowl; punch down and shape into loaves.
  4. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes.
  5. Yields 2 regular size loaves or 4 mini loaves.
