Ingredients

  • 4 doz. large pecans, cut in half lengthwise
  • 2 doz. caramel candies
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 doz. large pecans, cut in half crosswise

Instructions

  1. Arrange pecans on a sheet of wax paper with 4 long halves for legs and 1 short half for head of each turtle.
  2. On a buttered plate, arrange 6 caramels evenly around edge.
  3. Microwave at High for 15 to 30 seconds or until caramels are soft but not melted. Keep warm.
  4. Press caramels down firmly over nuts and quickly form into turtle shapes.
  5. Set aside.
  6. In a bowl mix chips and shortening.
  7. Cover and microwave on Medium for 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 minutes until chips are soft, stirring well after each minute. Frost turtles with chocolate.
  8. Arrange on wax paper and let set until cool.
