Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup pecans
  • 1/2 cup coconut

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs well; add sugar.
  2. Melt shortening over boiling water; add to sugar mixture.
  3. Add flour and mix until smooth.
  4. Spoon 1/4 of the batter into a small bowl.
  5. To the remaining batter, add melted chocolate and pecans; mix well.
  6. Spread the chocolate batter in a well-greased pan.
  7. Add coconut to the 1/4 batter and spread over the chocolate batter.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 45 minutes.
