Ingredients

  • 1 qt. prepared hamburger dill chips
  • a bag pickling spices
  • garlic to taste
  • sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. tarragon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Use a soft white cloth to tie your pickling spices in.
  2. Put the spice bag and garlic to taste in the bottom of a quart jar.
  3. Begin with a layer of pickles in the jar, then a layer of sugar; continue in this manner until the jar is completely filled and firmly packed.
  4. Add tarragon vinegar, put a top on the jar, and begin shaking and turning the jar often until all the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Wait at least 24 hours before putting the jar in the refrigerator.
  6. Usually takes 2 to 3 days for the pickles to become crisp and firm.

Tips & Substitutions

For a spicier kick, consider adding sliced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes to your pickles. If you prefer a sweeter pickle, you can increase the amount of sugar. Using fresh garlic cloves will enhance the flavor, while experimenting with different types of vinegar like apple cider can provide a unique twist. Make sure to pack the pickles tightly to ensure proper infusion.

Serving Suggestions

These pickles are perfect as a crunchy snack or a zesty side dish. Serve them alongside sandwiches, burgers, or salads for added flavor. They also pair beautifully with marinated turkey or can be chopped and added to potato salad for an extra zing. For a refreshing twist, enjoy them with a cold beverage on a hot day.

Storage & Reheating

After preparing the pickles, store them in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Ensure the jar is tightly sealed to maintain freshness. If the pickles become too soft over time, try adding a few fresh dill sprigs to revive the crunch. For optimal flavor, enjoy them within the first week after refrigeration.
