Ingredients

  • 1 qt. warm water
  • 1 can lye
  • 6 c. warm lard
  • 1 c. ammonia
  • 1/2 c. borax

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 quart of warm water and a can of lye; let it cool.
  2. The mixture will boil when combined.
  3. Use only crock jars for mixing.
  4. Mix warm lard, ammonia, and borax with 1/4 cup of warm water.
  5. Add the cooled lye mixture to the second mixture and stir well.
  6. Do not use any plastic or metal containers; use crock jars or granite.
  7. Use wooden spoons for mixing.
  8. Beat until the mixture becomes thick.
  9. Pour the mixture into a granite pan or a small wooden box and let it cool.
  10. Cut the soap and let it set for 5 weeks before use.
