Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cook all ingredients together, except vanilla, without stirring, until candy reaches the hard ball stage (250°F) in cold water or forms a hard ball when tested.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour onto a buttered platter and let cool slightly.
  4. When cool enough to handle, pull the candy until it becomes creamy white, working in the vanilla.
  5. Stretch the candy into long strips about the size of a finger.
  6. Cut into 1-inch lengths and wrap in waxed paper.
