Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup milk, scalded
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well.
  2. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  3. Work down the dough and roll out to 1/4-inch thickness.
  4. Cut with a doughnut cutter.
  5. Let the cut doughnuts rise until doubled in size.
  6. Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
  7. Drain well before serving.
