Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 2 to 3 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water

Instructions

  1. Scald milk and stir in sugar.
  2. Add shortening and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and then add flour gradually.
  5. Cover and set aside in a warm place for 30 minutes to double in bulk.
  6. Knead the batter on a floured board.
  7. Roll out to desired thickness.
  8. Cut with a biscuit cutter.
  9. Brush with margarine and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350° to 400° until done.
