Ingredients

  • sliced country ham
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • black pepper
  • 3/4 cup tomato juice
  • water
  • sliced apples
  • sugar
  • bacon drippings
  • dash of salt
  • biscuits

Instructions

  1. Brown slices of country ham in ample bacon drippings or fat until nicely browned. Remove ham and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, brown the flour until very dark, then add black pepper, tomato juice, and water to reach desired consistency. Simmer the gravy.
  3. Fry sliced apples in a pan with bacon drippings, adding sugar and a dash of salt until apples are tender and coated.
  4. Steam hot biscuits with chunks of cheese in the center.
  5. Serve the biscuits with the tomato gravy, fried apples, and slices of country ham for a hearty meal.
