- Place 1 1/2 cups sugar and water in a 13 x 9-inch oblong pan. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the dough by combining sifted flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, shortening, and milk to form a soft dough.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into squares.
- Place chopped apples mixed with cinnamon and butter in the center of each dough square.
- Wrap the dough around the apple filling, sealing edges well.
- Place the filled apple rolls in the prepared pan with the sugar and water syrup.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with a drizzle of the syrup from the pan.
