Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb bacon
  • 3/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 cups finely shredded cabbage
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Dice the bacon and cook slowly until crisp.
  2. Pour off half the bacon drippings.
  3. Add vinegar, water, sugar, salt, and pepper to the remaining drippings and heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the shredded cabbage to the hot mixture and cook until the cabbage is hot and well coated with the sauce, about 3 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Drain off excess liquid before serving.
