Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated apple
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick oleo (butter or margarine), melted
  • 2/3 cup sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Mix together sugar, shortening, egg, grated apple, milk, flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a greased or parchment-lined cookie sheet.
  3. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  4. While hot, dip the doughnuts in melted oleo (melted butter or margarine).
  5. Roll the coated doughnuts in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
