Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cornmeal
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Mix in cornmeal and cut in shortening until crumbly.
  3. Add the egg and milk; stir until blended.
  4. Dip each frankfurter into the batter.
  5. Fry in hot fat (365°F) until brown, about 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  6. Drain on absorbent paper.
  7. Insert a wooden skewer in each frankfurter and serve with catsup.
