Berries Gratin

- Preheat broiler.
- Scald milk in a saucepan until bubbles form along the edge; do not boil.
- Remove from heat and skim any foam.
- In a bowl, whisk yolks and 1/2 cup of sugar until smooth.
- Add flour and cornstarch to the yolk mixture.
- Pour the scalded milk into the yolk mixture and return to the saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Add mascarpone cheese, butter, lemon juice, and vanilla; stir until smooth.
- Spoon the custard into the bottom of a quiche pan.
- Arrange berries on top of the custard and press lightly into the cream.
- Sprinkle remaining sugar on top.
- Place under the broiler until lightly browned.
