Berries Gratin

Berries Gratin offers a creamy mascarpone custard topped with fresh berries, lightly browned under the broiler for a delightful, fruity dessert suited for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 c. mascarpone cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat broiler.
  2. Scald milk in a saucepan until bubbles form along the edge; do not boil.
  3. Remove from heat and skim any foam.
  4. In a bowl, whisk yolks and 1/2 cup of sugar until smooth.
  5. Add flour and cornstarch to the yolk mixture.
  6. Pour the scalded milk into the yolk mixture and return to the saucepan.
  7. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  8. Add mascarpone cheese, butter, lemon juice, and vanilla; stir until smooth.
  9. Spoon the custard into the bottom of a quiche pan.
  10. Arrange berries on top of the custard and press lightly into the cream.
  11. Sprinkle remaining sugar on top.
  12. Place under the broiler until lightly browned.
