Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. milk

Instructions

  1. Stir shortening to soften.
  2. Gradually add sugar; cream thoroughly (12 to 15 minutes) at medium speed on mixer.
  3. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour with baking powder and salt.
  4. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
  5. Bake in 2 paper-lined 9-inch round cake pans at 375° for about 23 minutes. Frost as desired.
