- Heat a pint of vegetable oil to about 175°F.
- Add the ground beef to the hot oil and stir until the meat juices begin to boil.
- Cook and stir for 10 more minutes, breaking up the meat, until the juices are barely bubbling.
- Pour the meat and oil into a strainer and save the liquid.
- Pour a cup or two of boiling water over the meat in the strainer to loosen the meat and collect the water with the rest of the liquid.
- Place the liquid in the refrigerator for 1 hour, then skim off the hardened fat.
- Pour the fat-free liquid over the cooked meat.
- The meat is now ready to use in any dish that calls for ground beef.
