Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, quartered
  • 3 Tbsp. white wine Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (46 oz.) can vegetable juice
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 c. pepper flavored vodka
  • lime slices

Instructions

  1. The night before serving, make the slush mixture.
  2. In a food processor or electric blender, combine onion, Worcestershire sauce, half the vegetable juice, and all the lemon juice; process until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into a shallow nonaluminum baking pan.
  4. Stir in the remaining vegetable juice.
  5. Cover and freeze until solid.

Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother texture, ensure the onion is finely processed. You can substitute the pepper flavored vodka with plain vodka and add a dash of hot sauce for heat. If you prefer a milder flavor, decrease the amount of Worcestershire sauce. This recipe can also be adjusted to your taste by varying the amount of lemon juice or adding spices like celery salt.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Bloody Mary Slushes in chilled glasses, garnished with lime slices. They pair beautifully with appetizers like shrimp cocktail or bite-sized snacks. For a full meal, consider serving alongside a refreshing salad or classic tomato aspic. This drink is perfect for summer gatherings or brunch parties.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover slush in an airtight container in the freezer. It can last for up to a month. To rehydrate and serve, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes, then scrape with a fork to create a slushy texture again. Avoid refreezing after it has been thawed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe non-alcoholic?

Absolutely! To create a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the vodka and add a splash of hot sauce or extra lemon juice for flavor. You can also use non-alcoholic vegetable juice blends to maintain the taste without the alcohol.

How can I adjust the spice level?

You can control the spice level by adjusting the amount of Worcestershire sauce and using a milder vegetable juice. For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce or even some diced jalapeños to the mixture before blending.

What if I don’t have a food processor?

If you don’t have a food processor, a regular blender will work just fine. Alternatively, you can finely chop the onion and mix everything by hand, though the texture may not be as smooth. Just ensure it’s well combined for the best flavor.
