  • hot bed of coals

  2. Fold the top of the bag over 3 or 4 times.
  3. Punch a hole through the folds with a sharpened stick.

  5. Remove the bag, open it, and pour eggs directly onto the bacon inside.
  6. Close the bag, place it back on the stick, and lean back over the coals until the eggs are cooked.
  7. When finished, tear off the top half of the bag and eat directly from the bag.
  8. Tastes better than it looks!

Tips & Substitutions

For best results, use thick-cut bacon to ensure it cooks evenly and adds more flavor. If you don’t have a sharpened stick, a long skewer or a sturdy branch can work as well. You can substitute the eggs with egg alternatives or add in some diced vegetables for extra nutrition. This method is similar to American recipes for campfire cooking, so feel free to experiment with other ingredients.

Serving Suggestions

Serve breakfast-in-a-bag straight from the bag for a fun and casual meal. It pairs wonderfully with toasted bread or fresh fruit for a balanced breakfast. For a heartier option, consider serving alongside Iowa Corn And Sausage Casserole. This dish is perfect for camping trips or backyard gatherings, bringing an element of nostalgia to your meal.

Storage & Reheating

This dish is best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, place it in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, or microwave briefly, ensuring the bacon retains its crispness. Avoid reheating in the original bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

This recipe is best made fresh due to the unique cooking method. However, you can prepare the bacon in advance and store it in the fridge. When you're ready to eat, layer the pre-cooked bacon in the bag, add the eggs, and cook as directed for a quicker breakfast.

What type of bacon works best for this recipe?

Thick-cut bacon is recommended for its ability to hold up during cooking and provide a richer flavor. However, you can use any type of bacon you prefer, including turkey or plant-based options, keeping in mind that cooking times may vary.

Can I add other ingredients to the bag?

Absolutely! Feel free to add in diced vegetables, cheese, or seasonings to customize your breakfast. Just be mindful of the cooking time, as additional ingredients may require longer to cook thoroughly. This versatility makes it a great choice for various tastes.
