Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 3/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 3/4 c. lukewarm milk, scalded then cooled
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 4 1/2 c. Gold Medal flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in milk, sugar, salt, shortening, and 2 1/2 cups of flour.
  3. Beat until smooth.
  4. Mix in remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  5. Turn dough onto a lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  6. Place in a greased bowl; turn greased side up.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
