Sweet and tangy pear preserves with lemon slices, perfect for spreading on toast or gifting. Bright flavors suited for breakfast, snacks, or dessert toppings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pears, cored, peeled, and quartered
  • 1 lb. sugar
  • 1 lemon, sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Peel a lemon, leaving some white on it, and slice it thin.
  2. For each pound of fruit, use 3/4 to 1 pound of sugar.
  3. Place the prepared pears and lemon slices in a bowl.
  4. Layer the pears with sugar, allowing the sugar to stand on the fruit overnight to make its own juice.
  5. Do not cover the mixture during this process.
  6. After the resting period, transfer the fruit and sugar mixture to a saucepan.
  7. Simmer uncovered for 2 hours or until the fruit is tender.
  8. Put the hot preserves into sterilized jars and seal.
