- Peel and core the apples.
- Place the apples face up in a 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Place a pat of butter in the center of each apple.
- Prepare the sauce by combining brown sugar, cornstarch, water, and vanilla.
- Cook the sauce over low heat for 5 minutes.
- Pour the sauce over the apples.
- Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes until tender.
- Serve warm topped with walnut pieces.
- Great by itself or served with vanilla ice cream.
