- Cook grits on your stove top according to the directions. Stir in the olive oil or butter, cheese, salt and hot sauce. Place in a casserole and bake for 30 minutes in a 350 oven. This will "set" the grits and form a nice crust on top. The baking is optional but highly recommended.
