Ingredients

  • 1 pint sour milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • flour

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients and add enough flour to make the dough easy to handle.
  2. Knead the dough until smooth.
  3. Roll out the dough until about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Cut into portions about the size of a quart jar lid.
  5. Make some slits in each piece.
  6. Deep fry in hot fat until golden brown, like doughnuts.
  7. Serve warm with honey.
